The following "17 Rules for Celestial Dating" were handed out by the Young Men's President, at a meeting for the parents of the Youth of our ward sometime in 1992. I have been unable to determine who the author of the 17 Rules... really is. I asked a number of members and leaders and most seemed to think that President Spencer W. Kimball was the author, but, no one knew for certain. I had first come across the 17 Rules...when I was a student at BYU, and had also heard, then, that President Kimball was the author. But, I have never actually seen a name attached to the 17 Rules.... When I was first compiled this book in 1995, I wrote Elder Boyd K. Packer and asked him. Elder Packer told me that he did not know who the author was, but he did "know that it was not President Kimball." To me the content of the 17 Rules for Celestial Dating seem similar to things that President Spencer W. Kimball and Elder Boyd K. Packer, and perhaps, Elder Hartman Rector, Jr., have said regarding dating and morality. My guess is that a member of the church, perhaps annonymously, sat down, and compiled and edited the things that these leaders have said, into what is known as the..............
